Studiolo robotico
Výstava svým názvem odkazuje na kabinet určený pro vědecké a spekulativní bádání (studiolo), ale zároveň na futuristickou divadelní hru "R.U.R. - Rossum´s Universal Robots" z roku 1921. Tato - téměř sto let stará - technická utopie o produkci umělých pracovních sil je dílem spisovatele Karla Čapka; za vynálezem slovního novotvaru "robot" byl údajně autorův bratr - spisovatel a malíř Josef Čapek, který v letech 1904-1910 studoval na UMPRUM v Praze. Instalace studentů UMPRUM volně odkazuje na Čapkovu divadelní hru a zároveň v aktualizovaném kontextu demonstruje hledání hranic mezi tradičním, manuálně řemeslným přístupem a plně automatizovanými, digitálními technologiemi. Pojetí celé instalace připomíná obří automat s řadou technických detailů, robota vykonávajícího různé funkce. Jeho jádro tvoří studio robotického portrétování, které zvnějšku funguje zdánlivě na vysoce automatizované úrovni. Ve skutečnosti jsou portréty, které si návštěvníci můžou nechat vytvořit, malovány ručně, v mechanismu technicistního objektu ukrytými ilustrátory. Tato část instalace přímo navazuje a rozvíjí úspěšný projekt ateliéru ilustrace nazvaný "L´Atelier automatique" z roku 2014.
The name of the exhibition refers to a cabinet intended for scientific and speculative research (studiolo), but also to the futuristic theatrical play "RUR - Rossum's Universal Robots" from 1921. This - almost a hundred years old - technical utopia about the production of artificial labor is the work of the writer Karel Čapek; The inventor's brother, the writer and painter Josef Čapek, who studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in the years 1904-1910, was allegedly behind the invention of the word neoplasm "robot". The UMPRUM students' installation freely refers to Čapek's play and at the same time demonstrates in an updated context the search for boundaries between the traditional, manually-crafted approach and fully automated, digital technologies. The concept of the whole installation resembles a giant machine with a number of technical details, a robot performing various functions. Its core is a studio of robotic portraiture, which from the outside works seemingly on a highly automated level. In fact, the portraits that visitors can have created are painted by hand, hidden by illustrators hidden in the mechanism of the technical object. This part of the installation directly follows and develops the successful project of the illustration studio called "L´Atelier automatique" from 2014.
